Entry #10. Social Media
I believe that nowadays social media is a big part of our life. We have Facebook, Instagram, twitter, TikTok and other social media. Social media is one of the most popular media in our life. It updates us about the latest information's about the world. There are many advantages to use social media. We can use it to connect with our friends, family and even with people across the world. We can also use social media to get the latest information as well.
However, social media also can affect to our mental health. It can make some people feel jealous, sad and some others even could suffer from the post traumatic disorder (PTSD) because of the social media. In conclusion, social media is nowadays a big part of our life. It can be used for many good purposes. However, it can also harm someone mentally. I believe that social media has a positive effect to our life. Social media can lead to problems with mental health by perpetuating the comparison trap. When we look through our news feeds, we are presented with photos of other people’s supposedly ideal lives. This can lead to feelings of inadequacy, low self-esteem, and a warped sense of reality as we compare our lives to the highlight reels of others. Another way that social media hinders mental health is FOMO (fear of missing out). Every time we scroll through Instagram and see our friends and acquaintances having a great time and making memories without us, we can feel lonely and isolated. It’s exhausting to be constantly plugged in to every aspect of our social circles. On the other hand, social media can also lead to increased anxiety and stress. We constantly feel the need to portray ourselves in a certain light, to stay online, to keep up with the latest trends and be on top of it all. The endless repetitive cycle of notifications likes and comments can trigger feelings of unease or anxiety. And, on one hand, this social media can also be a friend, a support, a way of staying in touch with others, a community, and a source of information and resources. The key is to remember that social media is a tool, and it’s not always healthy for us to be in control of it. We need to take a step back and figure out how we feel and what our mental health is telling us. Remember to take breaks and limit your time on social media. Don’t forget to take care of yourself.
